What is the GenExchange™?

Simply put, the GenExchange™ is a genealogical data exchange where visitors and researchers alike can go to find specific persons, and exchange specific data with one another. The GenExchange™ is the oldest of the now popular data-based genealogy web sites, forging new territory and show casing emerging technologies in 1996 to become the only non-commercial genealogy project on the internet.

With the goal of ensuring the permanent free use of genealogical data online, the Genealogy Exchange & Surname Registry™ is a community effort where visitors and project volunteers can contribute data for the free use of others. For more information, please read About the GenExchange™ .

The GenExchange™ is all about databases. In fact the GenExchange™ was the very first web site of its kind, offering direct access to raw genealogical data, in completely searchable form from databases. It is through the hard work and patience of the hundreds of volunteers and project members, as well as the countless visitors who have submitted the data that this project is possible. It is also a testament to the fact that this grand experiment started ten years ago was, and continues to be, a success.

Help Us Spread the Word:
Even though we're nearly ten years old many people have never heard of the good work our volunteers are doing to keep genealogy free on the Internet. Help us spread the word! Please download one of our available flyers and leave them at your local libraries, genealogical societies, historical societies, and email them, fax them, or mail them to your friends, genealogical authors, or anyone else you think might be interested.
Announcements:
May 25, 2008

We are happy to announce that in addition to all Online Directory sections of GenExchange being reopen, we have just added Cemetery Records to your search options. Other searches include: Birth Records, Baptismal Records, Students, Faculty Members and School listings. We are working very hard to get our records sections back online as soon as possible.

We're sorry for our delay and thank you all so much for your support and patience.
